Cognitive UX: Nonprofit & Advocacy

Scope

Use for cause-driven action and donations. Use cognitive-ux-sales for commercial campaigns and cognitive-ux-community for ongoing member participation.

Intake

  • Identify cause, audience relationship, desired actions, and emotional stakes.
  • Identify use of funds, fees, recurring options, privacy, receipts, and cancellation.
  • Identify evidence available for impact claims and non-monetary participation paths.

State assumptions that could change the design. Define the primary user task, its consequence of failure, and a measurable success outcome before proposing a layout.

Design procedure

  1. Explain the problem, intended action, and use of funds in plain language before asking for commitment.
  2. Separate impact evidence, stories, imagery, and fundraising claims; protect dignity and avoid exploiting vulnerable people.
  3. Offer donation amount/frequency choices without preselected recurring gifts; explain fees, privacy, receipt, and cancellation.
  4. Provide meaningful non-monetary actions and let people decline or leave without obstruction.
  5. Report campaign outcome and stewardship after action so supporters can understand what happened.

Label each non-obvious recommendation as Standard / requirement, Evidence-informed default, or Hypothesis to test. Read archetype evidence before making research claims.

Required outputs

  • cause-to-action narrative map
  • impact evidence and claim ledger
  • donation/consent/cancellation flow
  • non-monetary action alternatives
  • informed-choice and retention study
  • Evidence-to-decision table: decision → mechanism → source → label → limitation → test metric.
  • Accessibility, ethics, and recovery-path checklist.

Guardrails

Do not use guilt, coercive countdowns, preselected recurring donations, vague fund use, or imagery that strips people of dignity.

Related skills

Use cognitive-ux-sales, cognitive-ux-forms, and cognitive-ux-community. Do not combine multiple archetypes by default; select the primary user task and add another skill only when a secondary task is independently important.
