  • 24 days oldThe repository was created 24 days ago. New is not bad, but a brand new repository carrying a familiar-sounding name is the shape a typosquat arrives in, and there has been no time for anyone else to find a problem with it.
  • 1 stars1 stars. Stars are a popularity signal and not a quality one, but at this level it is likely that nobody has read this closely except its author, and you would be relying on your own review.

Design and audit forums, social networks, member communities, and contribution platforms using evidence-informed UX. Use when people discover, create, respond, build relationships, and stay safe; return newcomer path, contribution and visibility rules, moderation/reporting/blocking flows, notification controls, accessibility checks, and community-health metrics.

Cognitive UX: Community & Social

Scope

Use for ongoing participation and relationships. Use cognitive-ux-marketplace for provider/listing selection and cognitive-ux-content for primarily editorial publishing.

Intake

  • Identify community purpose, participant roles, norms, audience boundaries, and vulnerability risks.
  • Identify creation, discovery, identity, privacy, moderation, reporting, blocking, and appeal policies.
  • Identify notification model, consent, success definition, and harm/quality indicators.

State assumptions that could change the design. Define the primary task, its consequence of failure, and a measurable user outcome before proposing a layout.

Design procedure

  1. Let newcomers observe safely, find norms, and choose a first low-risk contribution without pressure to disclose.
  2. Make authorship, audience, visibility, edit history, and reporting context clear before people post or react.
  3. Provide report, block, mute, moderation, appeal, and safety resources as first-class, accessible flows.
  4. Give people meaningful notification controls and avoid engagement loops that exploit social pressure or interruption.
  5. Measure participation quality, safety, equitable contribution, and resolution—not raw posts, time, or addictive return alone.

Read archetype evidence. Label each non-obvious recommendation Standard / requirement, Evidence-informed default, or Hypothesis to test.

Required outputs

  • newcomer-to-contributor journey
  • content audience/visibility model
  • moderation/reporting/blocking/appeal flow
  • notification and consent controls
  • community-health and safety research plan
  • Evidence-to-decision table: decision → mechanism → source → label → limitation → test metric.
  • Accessibility, ethics, and recovery-path checklist.

Guardrails

Do not optimize for compulsive engagement, conceal an audience, pressure vulnerable sharing, or make reporting/blocking hard to find.
