Ethical Design

  • Equal visual weight for Accept and Reject
  • Granular options: Essential, Analytics, Marketing
  • Pre-selected: essential only (nothing else pre-checked)
  • Reject should be as easy as Accept (one click)
  • Remember choice across sessions
  • Easy to change preference later (in settings/footer)

Don'ts

  • Tiny reject link vs big Accept button
  • "Accept" and "Manage" (where Manage is the decline path)
  • Pre-checked non-essential cookies
  • No reject option at all
  • Cookie wall (blocking access until consent)
  • Dark patterns that guide toward acceptance
