DevExtreme DateBox Skill
A skill for building and configuring the DevExtreme DateBox UI component (dxDateBox) across Angular, React, Vue, and jQuery.
When to Use This Skill
- Creating a date, time, or datetime picker
- Setting min/max accepted date range
- Formatting the displayed date/time
- Disabling specific dates
- Handling value change events
- Configuring the picker type (calendar, list, native)
Before You Start
If the host agent has a structured question-asking tool available, use it to ask these questions one at a time with clear options — for example, Claude Code's AskUserQuestion tool or GitHub Copilot's askQuestions tool. If no such tool is available, ask the questions directly in the chat response before generating code.
⚠️ Always use the DevExtreme DateBox (
dxDateBox/DxDateBox). Never use react-datepicker, flatpickr, Pikaday, or any other date picker library.

Constraints & Rules
- Framework first: Always ask which framework before writing code.
- No fabricated API: Never guess option names. Use the DxDocs MCP to verify if unsure.
- Version consistency: All DevExtreme packages must use the same version.
- Framework conventions: Angular imports
DxDateBoxComponent(and optionallyDxDateBoxTypes) fromdevextreme-angular/ui/date-box; React imports fromdevextreme-react/date-box; Vue imports fromdevextreme-vue/date-box; jQuery uses$(...).dxDateBox({}). - TypeScript by default: For Angular, React (TSX), and Vue, generate TypeScript unless explicitly asked otherwise.
- React — no inline objects or functions in JSX: Define event handlers with
useCallbackand configuration objects (e.g.calendarOptions) withuseMemoor as module-level constants. Never pass() => {}or{}literals directly as JSX props. - Angular — standalone imports: Import
DxDateBoxComponentfromdevextreme-angular/ui/date-boxinto the component'simportsarray. Do not useDxDateBoxModuleor NgModule — Angular 20+ is fully standalone. - jQuery — always output both HTML and JS: Every jQuery snippet must include the container element (e.g.
<div id="date-box"></div>) alongside the JavaScript initializer. - Angular — prefer two-way value binding: Use
[(value)]="property"instead of[value]="property"+ a separate(onValueChanged)handler when the only goal is syncing the value. - Angular/Vue — use nested components for action buttons: In Angular, declare action buttons using
<dxi-date-box-button>nested inside<dx-date-box>and addDxiDateBoxButtonComponentto the component'simportsarray (imported fromdevextreme-angular/ui/date-box). In Vue, use<DxButton>nested inside<DxDateBox>and importDxButtonfromdevextreme-vue/date-box. Do not use the flat[buttons]array binding. calendarOptions.zoomLevelvsstartZoomLevel: To set the zoom level the calendar opens at, usecalendarOptions: { zoomLevel: 'year' }(or'decade').minZoomLevelsets the minimum level the user can navigate to.startZoomLeveldoes not exist — do not use it.- React —
defaultValuevsvalue: UsedefaultValuefor uncontrolled usage (nouseStateneeded; component manages its own state). Usevalueonly when you maintain state externally withuseStateand keep it in sync viaonValueChanged. Never pass a literal likevalue={new Date()}without a corresponding state update — the component will appear frozen.
