Input Handling

Documents and Source Material

For every command that analyses source material, accept input in these formats:

1. File path — Read the file directly using the host agent's file-reading capability
2. Pasted text — Use text pasted directly into the chat
3. URL — Fetch contract text from a URL using the host agent's web-fetch capability

If the user invokes an analysis command without the required source material, ask for the missing document, text, URL, query, or profile using that command's natural input shape. Do not fabricate document facts to continue.

Platform Neutrality

These skills must run cleanly in Claude, OpenAI, Codex, and other agent hosts. When a skill references a capability such as file reading, URL fetching, subagents, MCP, PDF generation, or saved output, use the equivalent capability provided by the current host. If the host lacks the capability, state the limitation and continue with the best available evidence.

Legal Currency

For post-2024 reforms and live legal-data checks, distinguish:

• enacted and commenced law
• enacted but not-yet-commenced law
• transitional provisions
• guidance, bills, consultations, and best-practice future-proofing

Do not state that a prospective reform is currently binding unless commencement is known. Use legislation.gov.uk, GOV.UK, regulator guidance, case-law tools, or available MCP sources when current status matters.

Mandatory Commencement Preflight

Before producing outputs for /legal employment, /legal tenancy, /legal gdpr, /legal consumer, /legal corporate, or /legal legislation-tracker, run live commencement checks by default when the host exposes legal-data tools:

1. Use the legislation MCP tools first: lookup_statute, lookup_section, check_in_force, and check_amendments.
