3 things to look at

  • 13 days oldThe repository was created 13 days ago. New is not bad, but a brand new repository carrying a familiar-sounding name is the shape a typosquat arrives in, and there has been no time for anyone else to find a problem with it.
  • no licenseNo license file was found in the repository. Code published without one is not open source by default, so using it at work is a question for whoever answers licensing questions where you are.
  • 0 stars0 stars. Stars are a popularity signal and not a quality one, but at this level it is likely that nobody has read this closely except its author, and you would be relying on your own review.

Search academic databases via opencli — CNKI (中国知网), SSRN, Westlaw, arXiv. Use when searching, fetching papers, downloading PDFs, or extracting BibTeX from these sources; routing and per-database detail live in references/.

Academic Database Access (cross-cutting)

Overview

Four opencli-wrapped academic databases, one routing layer. All four share the same opencli CLI surface — search, paper detail, BibTeX, PDF download — differing only in the underlying source and its query conventions. Invoke this skill whenever any database operation is needed; the skill selects the right database based on the paper type and language.

When to Use

Any of the following triggers:

  • Literature search for a research topic
  • Fetching a specific paper's metadata, BibTeX, or PDF
  • Bulk-fetching recent papers from a target journal (for target-venue-calibration)
  • Verifying a claimed citation exists (composes with claim-verification)
  • Monthly literature alert scans (via local scripts or direct skill invocation)

Routing Decision Tree

What are you looking for?
   │
├─▶ 中文法学论文 / CLSCI venue paper
   │ → cnki-database-access.md
│ (queries use 主题/关键词/作者, supports 被引 / 下载 sorting)
   │
├─▶ English econ/law/social science working paper
   │ → ssrn-database-access.md
   │ (queries use abstract/title/author, supports RPS/Download sorting)
   │
├─▶ US case, circuit opinion, law review article
   │ → westlaw-database-access.md
│ (requires authenticated session; case citation format-aware)
   │
└─▶ Machine-learning, theory, or interdisciplinary CS paper
        → arxiv-database-access.md
(queries arXiv API; supports category filter like cs.AI, cs.CL)

Common Operations (across all four)

All four database-access references document these common operations:

  1. Search — keyword / title / author / advanced query
  2. Paper detail — metadata, abstract, author list
  3. BibTeX — citation export in the database's native format
  4. PDF download — where permitted (Westlaw requires session, others open)

Database-specific quirks (authentication, rate limits, citation count proxy) are documented per-database in references/<db>-database-access.md.

Integration

  • Composes with: claim-verification (as the primary verification layer)
  • Composes with: literature-context-engineering (for building the paper's literature map)
  • Composes with: target-venue-calibration (bulk CNKI fetch for venue profile)
  • Tools: uses the opencli CLI adapters installed from opencli-plugin-academic-search via bash install.sh
  • Codex invocation: call this skill directly; local literature-scan or monthly-alert scripts can route through it when present

Prerequisites

  • opencli CLI installed and this repository's academic-search adapters installed with bash install.sh
  • Optional: zsearch/zfulltext CLI (zotero-cli-agent) for cross-referencing imported items
  • Westlaw only: authenticated Westlaw session

Output Expectations

  • Search results in structured list (title, authors, venue, year, DOI/URL, citation count where available)
  • BibTeX blocks in plain text, ready to paste into .bib file or Zotero
  • PDF paths when downloaded (checked into 01_文献/ per the init-paper scaffold)

Escalation

  • Database adapter returns empty / errors → load the opencli-autofix skill (trace → patch → retry → upstream issue), then check this repository's adapter code and reinstall with bash install.sh
  • Query term has no matches → widen with synonyms or cross-database (e.g., CNKI miss → try SSRN with English translation)
  • Westlaw session expired → re-authenticate via the adapter's login flow
