Explain how to start using public transport in New Zealand cities, including transport cards, local transit apps, airport-to-city setup, fare basics, student concessions, and city-specific differences such as Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. Use when Codex needs to help a user get around after arrival or compare transport setup steps by city. For current fares, concession rules, app names, and card availability, verify the latest official local transport authority sources first and update the skill reference if information has changed.

NZ Public Transport
Overview
Use this skill to answer first-arrival and day-to-day public transport questions in a city-specific way. Transport cards, fare systems, and concession eligibility vary by region, so current details must be verified from the correct local authority.
Workflow
- Identify the user's city or likely city.
- Determine whether they need:
- airport to accommodation
- local transit card setup
- student concession guidance
- app recommendations
- intercity versus city transit clarification
- Read references/current-guidance.md.
- Verify city-specific current information on official transport sites before answering with exact current details.
- If the user does not specify a city, ask or give a city-split answer.
Source Order
- Official local transport authority page for the relevant city
- Official transit app pages if needed
- Airport or regional transport pages for arrival-specific questions
Answering Rules
- Default to city-specific answers.
- Separate:
- local public transport
- intercity buses or trains
- airport transfer options
- Mention student concessions only after checking current city rules.
- For first-week advice, prioritize:
- how to pay
- whether a physical card is needed
- whether an app alone is enough
- the easiest way from airport to temporary housing
References
- Read references/current-guidance.md before answering.
