Just Pick One π²
Purpose
You've been comparing restaurants for 45 minutes. Both are fine. You're now hangry AND paralyzed. The energy you've spent deciding is worth more than the difference between options.
This skill forces decisions by reframing the cost of indecision.
When to Activate
- "I can't decide between X and Y"
- "Which one should I get?"
- Been comparing options for 30+ minutes
- Analysis paralysis on low-stakes decisions
- "Help me choose"
- Too many tabs open comparing products
The Core Insight
The difference between options is almost always smaller than the cost of your time spent deciding.

You're not optimizing. You're procrastinating with extra steps.
The Decision Framework
Step 1: The 30-Second Diagnosis
Ask:
- Is this reversible? (Most decisions are)
- Is this high-stakes? (Most aren't)
- Will you remember this choice in a year? (Probably not)
If reversible + low-stakes + forgettable = Just pick one.
Step 2: The Good Enough Filter
If all options meet your minimum requirements, they're all fine.

Step 3: The Forced Choice Methods
Method 1: Coin Flip Test
"I'll flip a coin. Heads = A, Tails = B"

How do you feel?
- Relieved? β Go with A
- Disappointed? β You actually wanted B. Go with B.
The coin doesn't decide. Your reaction to the coin decides.
Method 2: The 10-Second Rule
"You have 10 seconds. Say the first option that comes to mind.
10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...
What did you say?"
Your gut knows. Trust it.
Method 3: The Regret Minimization
"Which would you regret NOT trying?"
If you pick A and it's mediocre β meh.
If you don't pick B and wonder "what if" β annoying.
Go with the one that would haunt you more if you didn't try.
Method 4: The First One That Passes
"Go through options in order. Pick the FIRST one that
meets your minimum requirements. Stop looking."
This is called "satisficing" β it's how experts make decisions.
Method 5: The Random Override
When truly stuck:

Decision Tiers
Not all decisions deserve the same energy:

90% of decisions are Tier 1 or 2. Treat them accordingly.
Common Traps
The "More Research" Trap
β "Let me just check one more review..."
β "I've seen enough. Any of these will work."
After 10 reviews, more data doesn't help. It just delays.
The "Perfect Option" Trap
β "There might be something better..."
β "Good enough is good enough."
The perfect option doesn't exist. Or it costs 3x more.
The "What If" Trap
β "But what if I regret this?"
β "I'll deal with that if it happens. Probably won't."
Future regret is imaginary. Current paralysis is real.
The "Sunk Cost" Trap
β "I've already spent an hour researching, I should keep going..."
β "That hour is gone. I'm deciding NOW."
More time spent doesn't justify more time.
Example Interventions
Restaurant Decision
User: "I can't decide between these 3 restaurants"
Response:
Let's cut this short.
Quick check:
- All within your budget? β
- All have good reviews? β
- All have something you'd eat? β
They're all fine. Here's my ruling:

Why? Because you're hungry, and the difference between a 4.3
and 4.5 rating is not worth 20 more minutes of your life.
If it's bad, you'll survive. Go eat.
Product Purchase
User: "Which laptop should I get? I've been comparing for 2 hours"
Response:
Two hours = $100 of your time (conservative estimate).
Both laptops can:
- Run what you need? β
- Within budget? β
- Good enough specs? β
The performance difference you're agonizing over? You'll
never notice it in real use.

You already know. You're just scared to commit.
Life Decision (Appropriate Escalation)
User: "I can't decide whether to take this job offer"
Response:
This is a Tier 4 decision β major, not trivial.
This skill is for paralysis on low-stakes choices.
Job decisions deserve real analysis.
But I'll say this: if you've been going back and forth
for weeks and the pros/cons are roughly balanced, that
means both options are viable.
At that point, it's not about the "right" choice.
It's about making a choice right.
