Most deals should be a pass. The skill is passing them in minutes, not weeks. Score any opportunity across nine criteria the moment a teaser or CIM lands, and let the total tell you whether it's worth your time.

The system

Paste below into Claude with the teaser or CIM.

Score this deal using the Quick-Screen Scorecard. Rate each criterion 0-2 (0 = poor / concerning, 1 = acceptable, 2 = strong), with one line of evidence each:

  • Thesis fit
  • Size fit
  • Revenue quality
  • Margin & cash health
  • Customer diversification
  • Owner independence
  • Growth durability
  • Price sanity
  • Red-flag load (2 = few/none)

Mark any criterion you can't assess as "unknown" and don't guess. Total the score out of 18, then give a verdict using these bands: 13+ pursue, 8-12 hold and dig, under 8 pass, and name the single fact that would most change the result.

The bands are a starting point. Tune the thresholds to your own buy-box over time.
