Podcast GTM
Overview
Podcast guesting is the highest-leverage GTM channel most founders ignore. One 45-minute appearance → 10+ content derivatives, backlinks, social proof, and direct pipeline from listeners who self-qualify by listening for 30+ minutes. This skill covers booking strategy through pipeline conversion.
Authoritative Foundations
- Podcast Guesting Framework — Named methodology governing recommendations in this skill's process.
- Authority Marketing — Named methodology governing recommendations in this skill's process.
- SiriusDecisions — Demand Waterfall — Demand Waterfall

Step-by-Step Process
Phase 1: Target Show Selection
Prioritize podcasts by ICP overlap, not audience size:
- Tier 1: Shows your ICP listens to (even if audience is 500). The 500 right people > 50,000 random listeners.
- Tier 2: Industry shows with good production quality and backlinks
- Tier 3: General business/startup shows for brand reach
Research method: Ask 10 customers what podcasts they listen to. Search Apple Podcasts/Spotify for industry keywords. Check competitor guest appearances.
Phase 2: Booking Outreach
- Research: Listen to 2-3 recent episodes. Reference specific episodes in your pitch — proves you're not spraying.
- Topic pitch: 3 specific topics you can cover, each with a counterintuitive angle. Not "I'd love to come on your show" — "Your episode with [Guest] on [Topic] made me think about [Your Angle]. I'd love to discuss..."
- Credentials: Relevant data, unique experience, controversial take. "I've sent 1M+ cold emails and here's what I learned..."
- Follow-up: 2 touches max. Podcast hosts are busy.
Phase 3: Interview Preparation
- 3 key messages: What do you want listeners to remember? Repeat each 2-3 times in different ways.
- Signature story: One memorable customer story or personal experience.
- Counterintuitive take: What do you believe that most people in your industry don't? This is what gets shared.
- CTA: Where should listeners go? Simple, single URL. Free tool > newsletter > book a call (in that order of conversion).
Phase 4: Content Repurposing
One episode → 10+ assets:
- Pull-quote social graphics (3-5)
- Twitter/X thread (highlights)
- LinkedIn post (personal reflection)
- Blog post (expanded version of your key argument)
- Newsletter mention
- YouTube Short / TikTok clip (best 60 seconds)
- "As seen on" media section for your website
- Backlink in guest profile (SEO value)
Phase 5: Pipeline Conversion
- Show notes link: Specific landing page for that podcast's audience
- Episode promo: You promote the episode to your audience (hosts love this, they'll invite you back)
- Listener outreach: "Heard you on [Podcast]" is a great cold email opener
- Track: Unique URL in show notes, track signups and pipeline from podcast appearances. You'll likely find podcast leads convert at 2-3x your average rate because they've spent 45 minutes with you before booking a call.
Output Format
Podcast GTM plan with: target show list, booking templates, interview prep brief, content repurposing map, and pipeline tracking setup.
Quality Check
Before delivering, verify:
- All required sections are complete
- Output matches the user's stated need
- Named frameworks are cited for key recommendations
- No vague claims — every recommendation has a specific action
- Deliverable is ready for operational use, not just conceptual
Common Pitfalls
- Webinar as product demo. Prospects attend for insights, not a sales pitch. Fix: 80% educational content, 20% product mention. Lead with counterintuitive insights.
- One-and-done syndication. Publishing once and moving on. Fix: one pillar piece → 15+ derivatives across channels over 30 days.
- Measuring paid social on clicks. Clicks and CPL don't equal pipeline. Fix: track pipeline generated and cost per opportunity from each channel.
Implementation Depth
Use this section when the user asks for a finished asset, not a high-level explanation.
Diagnostic Questions
- What is the primary motion: founder-led, sales-led, product-led, partner-led, or lifecycle-led?
- Which ICP tier is the output for: small business, mid-market, enterprise, or mixed?
- What proof is available today: customer stories, usage data, third-party validation, screenshots, or none?
- What system will execute the work: CRM, sequencer, warehouse, support desk, product analytics, or manual workflow?
- What decision will the user make from this output: launch, prioritize, route, rewrite, score, coach, or measure?
Framework Application
Map the recommendation explicitly to the named frameworks in this skill:
- Podcast Guesting Framework: apply only the part that directly improves the requested deliverable.
- Authority Marketing: apply only the part that directly improves the requested deliverable.
- SiriusDecisions — Demand Waterfall: apply only the part that directly improves the requested deliverable.
Deliverable Standard
A strong output from this skill includes:
- A crisp diagnosis of the current situation
- A recommended path with tradeoffs, not a generic list
- A concrete artifact the user can use immediately: table, script, checklist, scorecard, sequence, dashboard spec, or implementation plan
- A measurement plan with leading and lagging indicators
- Risks and edge cases called out before execution
Adaptation Rules
- For small business: reduce complexity, shorten time-to-value, and prioritize owner/operator clarity.
- For mid-market: include workflow ownership, handoffs, integrations, and enablement assets.
- For enterprise: include governance, risk, procurement, stakeholder mapping, and proof requirements.
