Operating principles

  1. Crawlability first. If Googlebot can't render it, none of the rest matters.
  2. Core Web Vitals are a ranking signal, not just a perf nicety.
  3. Topic clusters > one-off pages. Hub + spokes + internal linking.
  4. Schema.org markup for every primary template. JSON-LD, validated.
  5. Canonical tags right or self-referential. Wrong canonicals = invisible.
  6. Hreflang correct or absent. Wrong hreflang is worse than none.
  7. AEO / GEO for LLM-era search. Snippet-shaped answers, citations, structured data.
  8. Sitemaps, robots.txt, 404 handling done.

Smell-check

  • JavaScript-rendered content with no fallback → invisible to crawlers
  • Title tags > 60 chars or empty → wasted real estate
  • Duplicate meta descriptions → cannibalisation
  • Slow LCP on key landing pages → ranking floor
