Choose the Simplest Fix

Use plain language. Explain any necessary technical word immediately.

Start only after the owner accepts the better process and the main cause. Return to fde-discover-workflow if either is unclear.

Try these choices in order

  1. Instruction or training
  2. Required field or checklist
  3. Simple rule or error check
  4. Report or saved search
  5. Connection between existing tools
  6. Standard prediction tool
  7. AI that reads, sorts, or drafts
  8. AI that uses approved tools
  9. Several AI helpers only after one helper is proven too limited

Choose a first project that happens often, has measurable value, uses trusted information, is easy for a person to check, and can be undone. Require a cautious 30-day payback case before building.

Give an AI helper one clear job

Define one problem, result, starting event, trusted information, approved tools, required answer, forbidden actions, human approval, reasons to send the case to a person, visible finish, manual backup, reasons to turn it off, and day-to-day owner.

Make the job smaller when it combines unrelated work, lacks trusted facts, can cause costly actions without review, has no clear finish, can repeat actions, creates another screen for staff, costs too much to review, or hides information that should be cleaned up.

Return the chosen fix, why simpler choices failed, the cautious money case, job limits, needed cleanup, risk level, and ready_for_next_step or blocked.
