When NOT to use
- The repository does not use black or flake8, or no code formatting standard is documented in contribution guidelines.
- The codebase is written in a language other than Python (e.g., R, JavaScript).
- The goal is to automatically fix formatting violations rather than detect and report them; use black --diff or black directly (without --check) instead.

How to apply

Optionally run flake8 for linting to catch style and logical errors. Generate a conformance report that lists files that violate the documented standard, the specific violations, and their locations (line/column). Decide whether to request fixes from the contributor or apply auto-formatting if the project workflow permits it.

- All Python files in the repository pass black --check with exit code 0 (no violations reported).

- The tool output is reproducible: running the check a second time on the same code yields identical results.
- flake8 output (if included) does not report false positives; violations align with the project's linting configuration (e.g., setup.cfg or .flake8).
Limitations
- black and flake8 enforce style and formatting conventions, not functional correctness or algorithmic validity; a passing check does not guarantee the code is scientifically correct or performant.
- The check depends on the project's documented black and flake8 configuration (e.g., line length, ignore rules); if configuration is missing or outdated, results may not match the project's actual standards.
- Some code quality issues (e.g., complexity, maintainability, type safety) are not caught by black or flake8 alone and may require additional tools (e.g., pylint, mypy).
- Contributors must have black and flake8 installed and available in their environment; CI/CD pipelines must be configured to run these checks automatically to enforce compliance.
