Seven-Character Regulated Verse (七言律诗) Mastery
A form of Classical Chinese poetry requiring 8 lines of 7 characters each.
1. Structure
- Four Couplets (四联):
- 首联 (Intro): Lines 1-2.
- 颔联 (Parallel): Lines 3-4. (Parallelism mandatory)
- 颈联 (Parallel): Lines 5-6. (Parallelism mandatory)
- 尾联 (Conclusion): Lines 7-8.
2. Parallelism (对仗)
- Part of speech matching (Noun-Noun, Verb-Verb).
- Tonal opposition (Level-Oblique).
- Semantic relationship (Contrast or Complement).
3. Tone Patterns (平仄)
- Basic Rule: The 2nd, 4th, and 6th characters must alternate between Level (平) and Oblique (仄).
- Sticky and Opposing Rules:
- 对 (Opposing): In a couplet (e.g., lines 1 and 2), the 2nd character's tone should be opposite.
- 黏 (Sticky): Between couplets (e.g., lines 2 and 3), the 2nd character's tone should be the same.

- 1: 平平仄仄仄平平 (Rhyme)
- 2: 仄仄平平仄仄平 (Rhyme)
- 3: 仄仄平平平仄仄
- 4: 平平仄仄仄平平 (Rhyme)
- 5: 平平仄仄平平仄
- 6: 仄仄平平仄仄平 (Rhyme)
- 7: 仄仄平平平仄仄
- 8: 平平仄仄仄平平 (Rhyme)
