Modeling Security Threats

Core principle

Model assets, trust boundaries, actors, entry points, abuse cases, controls, and residual risk before implementation. Activate only when the typed entry conditions are present; stop rather than inventing a missing tool, decision, or proof.

When not to use

  • a cosmetic UI change with no trust-boundary impact
  • a vulnerability already reproduced and ready for remediation
