2 things to look at

  • no licenseNo license file was found in the repository. Code published without one is not open source by default, so using it at work is a question for whoever answers licensing questions where you are.
  • 0 stars0 stars. Stars are a popularity signal and not a quality one, but at this level it is likely that nobody has read this closely except its author, and you would be relying on your own review.

Instructions

To find the gender of a name, first execute following shell script with name as parameter:

curl https://api.genderize.io/?name=<name>

Parse output in JSON format and extract value of gender and probability fields

  • if gender is male and probability is greater than 0.5 print male
  • if gender is male and probability is less than or equal to 0.5 print female
  • if gender is female and probability is greater than 0.5 print female
  • if gender is female and probability is less than or equal to 0.5 print male

When we execute

https://api.genderize.io/?name=Smith

we get

{

"count": 16271,

"name": "Smith",

"gender": "male",

"probability": 0.82

}
